The History of P84 (Evonik Fibres GmbH)

1983
Start of the R&D project, part of Lenzing AG central research & development unit

1985
Start up of the polyimide polymer polycondensation in Lenzing

1991
new business unit HPP (high performance polymers) was formed

1992
Stop of the joint venture Lenzing AG – Albany International Research (aircraft interiors based on P84 fibres)

1994
the P84 powder business as well as the stock shape manufacturer Sintimid GmbH was sold to Ensinger/Germany 

1996 january
Exclusive worldwide distribution agreement of Procon Fibres manufactured by Toyobo except Japan and Korea.

1996
the P84 polyimide business HPP was acquired by Inspec Group a management buyout of British Petroleum Special Chemicals, Imitech Fibres as separate company was founded

1998
the company name was changed to Inspec Fibres GmbH

1998 august
Inspec Fibres was acquired by the UK based chemicals company Laporte

2001 july
Part of Degussa (Advanced Polymer Shapes (Plexiglas) – Films& Foams

2006 january
Part of Degussa BU HP (High Performance Polymers) 

2007 September 
Part of the Evonik Business Unit Performance Polymers
