General Properties


Procon® polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) is based on a fully aromatic, halogen free, semi crystalline polymer which shows excellent thermal and chemical properties. The polymer melts at 285 °C and provides a glass-transition temperature of 85 °C , the fibres can be used up to 190 °C depending on the environment.
Procon exhibits inherent flame resistance which is described by the high limiting oxygen index of 40 percent. As with most aromatic polymers the UV resistance is poor.

Chemical Resistance

Procon® PPS in general shows excellent chemical properties and is almost insoluble in organic solvents up to 200 °C. The polymer and the fibres are only affected by strong mineral acids like concentrated sulphuric and nitric acid or strong oxidizing environments.
