General Properties Procon polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) is based on a fully aromatic, halogen free, semi crystalline polymer which shows excellent thermal and chemical properties. The polymer melts at 285 °C and provides a glass-transition temperature of 85 °C , the fibres can be used up to 190 °C depending on the environment.
Procon exhibits inherent flame resistance which is described by the high limiting oxygen index of 40 %. As with most aromatic polymers the UV resistance is poor.
Chemical Resistance Procon PPS in general shows excellent chemical properties and is almost insoluble in organic solvents up to 200 °C. The polymer and the fibres are only affected by strong mineral acids like concentrated sulphuric and nitric acid or strong oxidizing environments.
